LinkmeUg continues to discover Uganda’s rising talent bringing you 23 year old Bwango Issa Tomasc aka Draei Bitsc a singer, songwriter, guitarist and voice over artist.
My stage name Draei is an abbreviation of Dream, Reason, experience and Inspiration. I was born in Kampala in 1994 to Yusuf Kaija and Kahagire Joyce. When my father passed away in 1999, our mother took us through school and I went to Butebe PS, Kahinju ss and Kibiito ss.
Later, I went to Mountains of the Moon University and I hold a first class degree in social work and community development.
I started doing music in High school and in my S.6 vacation, recorded songs with Big Spit Music cooperation a group my 4 friends and I formed.
Initially, I was a rapper, background vocalist and writer for the group but have since focused on singing.
In 2015, I performed on Bayimba festivals and later participated in Coca Cola Rated Next singing competitions season 3 and made it to the top 10 finalists.
I draw my inspiration from Michael Jackson; our father used to play his songs in the late nineties and I always wanted to scream like him. But my mother sings in the church choir.
I have worked with Big Spit Music, and Youth & HipHop Uganda supported by Bayimba and our HipHop is doing well on television and online.
My music is on You tube, Reverbnation and Mdundo, just type my name and it will pop up.
Who would you like a collabo with?
Maurice Kirya, Shiffah Musisi and Kimera 256 work for me locally a collabo with them would really be nice.
I am in Love with someone but I will not disclose her; she loves her privacy. Music has also been my first love.
Challenges in the industry
Every good artist needs a manager but few people are willing to step in and do the job. I manage myself but it’s kinda hard sometimes. The other thing may be is lack of good sound engineers to mix and master our recordings which also affects live shows. The last thing I would say, money is affecting us. No money no platform.
Expectations and new projects.
In 5 yrs, I hope to have released at least 2 albums and flying out of the country to perform. I am currently working on something but I want to surprise my fans so I won’t say much now.
A word to other upcoming artists
Someone is coming for you; an opportunity will knock so prepare yourself so that you don’t blame anyone. Above all pray; no prayer goes unanswered.
