How to be a working student

Having a part-time job while studying is a dream come true for many youth. Though the problem comes to what kind of job can one do while still pursuing his/her course at campus.

LinkmeUg’s Cuthbert Kigozi spoke to Ms. Priscilla Nyachwo a Human Resource officer who shared some ideas on the kinds of jobs a student can do.

What kind of jobs are suitable for the youth who are still in school?

HRM Speaks out: Jobs like Sales representatives, marketing executives, stall attendants especially on product promotions, ushers, pump attendants (night or day shifts), Receptionists, Waiters and waitresses in hotels and many more as long as you can earn a living from them and still go to school. But let’s keep them moral and acceptable.

How can one find such jobs?

HRM Speaks out: These aren’t jobs that will seek you, you have to move to companies and ask or apply for an opportunity. For sales and marketing jobs there are many companies to approach, mobile telecom companies, Banks and Insurance companies, and others.

Is it important for a student to have a job?

HRM Speaks out: The job instills a lot of experience to the youth prior to the time s/he gets a formal job. This youth also gets to improve on his/her Intra-personal skills and as well as learning how to budget a salary.

HRM Speaks out: Look for a job that won’t collide with your class time because you must give adequate time to your books as well.
