Social media has brought the whole world near you and you can use it to your advantage to tell the world about who you are, what you believe in and what you can do for your community. LinkmeUg brings you a publicity and marketing expert Yusuf Kavuma advising youth on how to use social media to get a job, a contract, training, or funding.

“Youth should know that social media accounts are your business card or a banner about you,” Yusuf starts. He goes on to list how to make sure social media works for you.

  • Use your official name on all your social media accounts. Unless you are planning to be a musician, use the name that can traced to your college, jobs and experience. People will take you seriously if you present yourself as Suzan Akello other than The pretty suzie that is of course if it’s not a stage name.
  • Be consistent with what you stand for on the topics you discuss.
  • Update your profile every time it changes.
  • Upload images and videos of what you do. Explain what you do and how you do it.

Social media can really change our lives for better; what we tell people we meet on our different accounts and what we choose to identify with can truly make us or not.

Now you know.
